Statement by the Wacken Organizers regarding the hacker attack on Sunday, 17th January 2010

Created by WackenHelge
01/19/2010

This Sunday afternoon, our website fell prey to a hacker attack. The security lack has been fixed immediately so the site was only offline for a short time.

No personal customer data has been affected by the attack because they are stored on another server. After checking the logfiles by our development department we didn´t find any clue that the lack has been made use of before.

This security lack only existed for a short time because a fix that had already been brought into coincidence was not copied to the second server.

We reserve our right for taking legal steps in the case of such actions – nevertheless we place part of the blame on ourselves and so we abstain from taking further legal steps in this particular case.

Even if the hacker wanted to point a security lack out - hacking a website is still an unlawful act resp. a crime. We would have wished that we had been informed about this lack of security directly by this person instead of hacking our website resp. making it public in the way it happened.
