NEWS

Es ist vollbracht. Über 25.000 Metal Fans pilgerten diesmal zum 12. WACKEN OPEN

AIR, um für eine Woche die größte Heavy Metal Party dieses Planeten abzufeiern!

Hiermit sagen wir nochmal an alle Teilnehmer: THANX FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!

74 Bands sorgten am 3. und 4. August von 10.00 morgens bis um 03.00 Uhr nachts

für Vollbedienung in Sachen Metal. Auch das Donnerstag Programm am 2.8. schien

für Begeisterung zu sorgen. Kurzfristig wurde die türkische Band KNIGHT ERRANT

als Opener engagiert und erntete mit ihrem Folk-Metal bei den bereits zahlreich

anwesenden Festivalbesuchern reichlich Beifall. Das CREMATORY aufgrund von

Anreiseproblemen kurzfristig auf Samstag verlegt wurden, tat diesem Abend

keinen Abbruch. Die Death-Metaller FINNTROLL, die US-Sexrocker THE IMPOTENT

SEASNAKES und WASP gaben an diesem Abend die musikalische Richtung für die

kommenden zwei Tage durch.

Weiter sind wir stolz darauf, dass die ?Comebacks? vom Adler bei SAXON und den

Bomber bei MOTÖRHEAD mit einer jeweils starken Live-Performance der Bands von

Euch so abgefeiert worden sind!

Das WACKEN OPEN AIR hat sich einmal mehr als das größte HEAVY METAL Festival

der Welt bewiesen und zieht Fans und Journaille aus zahlreichen Ländern dieser

Erde an. Tickets und Akkreditierungen wurden bis nach Australien, Amerika,

Brasilien, Japan, Südafrika, Russland und ganz Europa geschickt.

Euch sei an dieser Stelle noch mal ausdrücklich dafür gedankt, dass dieses

Festival so friedlich und stressfrei verlaufen ist.

EINTRITTSBÄNDER

Dummerweise wurden uns zu wenig Plomben für die Eintrittsbänder geliefert,

daher mussten wir am Freitag schreckliche Plastikbänder rausgeben ?SORRY?

jedoch könnt ihr diese gegen die Einsendung in Originalbänder umtauschen

lassen. Bitte schickt die Plastikbänder an:

MÜLLABGABESTATION

Auch hier gingen uns die versprochenen Poster aus. Die ihre Adresse an der

Bandausgabe abgegeben haben, bekommen die Poster zugeschickt.

LOGISTIK

Auch den Leuten hinter den Kulissen soll hier für den professionellen Job

Respekt gezollt werden. Ohne das nötige Know How wäre der organisatorisch

reibungslose Ablauf eines Festivals in dieser Größenordnung gar nicht möglich.

Um Euch mal einen Einblick über Arbeitsaufwand und Größenverhältnisse zu ver-

schaffen, haben wir Euch ein paar Infos besorgt:

20 Äcker mit einer Fläche von 200 Hektar werden als Grundfläche für das

Festival benötigt

20 Hektar allein ist das Festivalgelände groß

1800 qm Grundfläche hat die Double-Mega Stage

6 Tage werden von 500 Bühnenaufbauern und Stagehands für Bühnenaufbau,-

und Abbau benötigt

600 Lampen und 90 movinglights werden allein auf der Double-Mega Stage verhängt

500 Securities sorgen im Wechsel nonstop für Sicherheit an den Einlässen und

vor der Bühne und auf dem gesamten Gelände

500 Mobiltoiletten und 3 Duschcamps a 60 Duschen und 40 Toilettencontainer und

45 Fressbuden für die Grundbedürfnisse

Verlegt wurden:

20 km Stromkabel

12 km Wasserleitungen

19 km Bauzaun

4000 Pfähle zum Abtrassieren der Camping/Parkflächen

Material wurde an, - und abtransportiert mit:

45 Trucks und Trailern

10 Staplern, 2 Raupen und einem Bagger

Verbraucht wurde ca.:

11.000 Kubikmeter Wasser

6 Megawatt Strom (Strombedarf einer Kleinstadt)

Wie hoch die leeren Bierfässer gestapelt werden können ist noch nicht ganz

geklärt

Diese Zahlen sprechen eigentlich für sich und lassen ungefähre Vorstellungen

zu, was für ein Arbeitsaufwand das Festival verursacht.

D V D

Eine aufwendige DVD von diesem Festival ist auch geplant mit Best of von

1998 ? 2000. Release ca. im Dezember 2001.

NEWS

It's done. 27.500 metal fans made their way to the 12th WACKEN OPEN AIR this

time to party for a week on the biggest Heavy Metal event of the planet!

We hereby say to all participants once again: THANX FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!

On August, 3rd and 4th, from 10 am in the morning to 3 am in the middle of the

night, 74 bands made sure that the people were served right when it comes up

to Metal. Also Thursday's programme on August, 2nd hit the bull's eye. At

short notice, the Turkish band KNIGHT ERRANT doing Folk-Metal was engaged for

the opening position and got much applause from the already numerously present

festival visitors. The fact that CREMATORY had to be postponed until Saturday

because of a car breakdown on the road did no harm to that evening. The Death

Metal band FINNTROLL, the sexrockers THE IMPOTENT SEASNAKES and WASP set the

musical direction for the next two days on that evening.

The absolute high spot of the Friday's billing was, of course, good old Biff

with SAXON. All classics of the long-standing SAXON carrier and the original

"Eagle has landed" stageset really blew the horn. At 2.00 am in the middle of

the night, DIMMUR BORGIR entered the stage - the highlight for numerous Death

Metal fans at Wacken for sure.

On Saturday, Motörhead even topped the atmosphere with their Best-Of show and

the original "bomber". All the festival visitors seemed to assemble in front of

the double-mega stage and turned Wacken into a huge moshpit.

The WACKEN OPEN AIR proved one more to be the biggest HEAVY METAL festival of

the world and it attracts fans and journalists from numerous countries from all

over this planet. Tickets and accreditions were mailed even to Australia, the

United States, Brazil, Japan, South Africa, Russia and all over Europe.

A big big "Thank You!" to all the fans in this place for a peaceful and

stressfree festival.

WHRISTBANDS

We unfortunately were delivered to few lead seals for the whristbands. We had

therefore giving you terrible plastic-whristbands on friday -SORRY- for that.

You can get an original Whristband if you send us your plasticwhristband.

We went out of the promised posters there, too.

LOGISTICS

We also want to pay tribute to the people behind the scenes and the

professional job they did. Without the necessary know how, a smoothly

organizational course of a festival of this magnitude wouldn't be possible

at all.

We got some info for you to give you an insight into the expenditure of energy

and the proportions:

20 fields with an expanse of 200 hectars as a base ground were needed for the

festival

20 hectars only festival ground

1800 m² Double-Mega stage ground

6 days long, 500 stage builders and stage hands were needed for stage

construction and dismantling

600 lamps and 90 moving lights were installed just on the Double-Mega stage

500 security guards alternately nonstop took care of the security at the

entrances and in front of the stage and on the whole festival ground, too.

500 mobile toilets and 3 showering camps with 60 showers and 40 toilet

containers and 45 food stands served the basic needs.

That was laid:

20 km power cables

12 km water pipes

19 km fencing

4000 stakes for marked-out routing of camping and parking areas

Material was transported to and from the festival ground with:

45 trucks and trailers

10 staplers, 2 caterpillars and an excavator

That was consumed:

11.000 m³ water

6 mega watt power (the power need of a town)

It's still not clear how high the beer barrels could be stapled.

Actually, the numbers do the talking already and it gives a rough idea of how

much effort a festival like this causes.

A complex DVD of this Festival is also planned with Best OF of 1998 - 2000.

Release approx. in December 2001.
