Wacken is her biggest dream

Created by WackenMatthias

Joanna’s greatest wish: to attend the Wacken Open Air festival once! Thanks to RADIO BOB! and the Sternenbrücke Children’s Hospice, she and her parents headed toward Schleswig-Holstein. Although Joanna’s favorite band, Volbeat, wasn’t present this year, the group sent her a personal video message wishing her a great time on the Holy Ground.

“Our life motto is that despite Joanna’s severe illness, she should have a good time. And she definitely did at Wacken Open Air—and still does when she watches the video from Volbeat! It was just amazing for us and is a extra beautiful memory,” said Joanna’s mother.

She shared that Joanna had been a perfectly “normal” child up until the age of 15, when she was diagnosed with Lafora disease, which became an enormous challenge for the entire family.

“The constant deterioration happens physically and mentally. It’s always in the back of our minds that she won’t live to old age,” Joanna’s mother said. “On the other hand, Joanna has so much joy for life. Music plays a huge role in her life, and she loves tattoos.”

It's important to her family to share Joanna’s story and display how much fun she had at Wacken.

We are so thrilled that we were able to fulfill Joanna’s wish!
