In view of current events
W:O:A is a place where Metalheads of all nationalities come together in harmony. Of course, we are fully aware the world isn’t as peaceful as we’d hope for and as we experience on our Holy Ground. The situation in Ukraine is a painful reminder. We are shocked and deeply saddened by the pictures and news we receive out of Kyiv, Kharkiv and other regions of the country.
We have no illusions about be being able to put an end to this war. But we still firmly believe that music has the power to bring people together and to give strength. This is why we will feature Ukrainian bands performing at W:O:A on WackenTV in the upcoming days, starting with Motanka, placed 2nd at our Metal Battle 2018. Check out the playlist here.
As we do so, we would like to encourage you to give whatever support you can. For example, by donating money to organizations that care for people escaping from the violence. UNHCR is one of many organizations doing so. Alternatively, you can check which in-kind donations are most urgently needed at the moment. From Wacken, for example, 10,000 rescue blankets were sent on the way yesterday. Or maybe there are initiatives in your area or the possibility to join rallies. This is also a way of showing the people affected that they are not alone. Perhaps you even have the possibility to shelter refugees, for information on this please visit Unterkunft Ukraine (unterkunft-ukraine.de).
Metalheads, let’s continue to stand united for peace and hope in these dark times! Our hearts are with the people in and from Ukraine. And they are with the people in Russia raising their voices against the war.
